Hamilton Accessibility Map

This map is to assist people with disabilities to move around the central city. It has a list of some useful resources on the back. Available from most libraries or council related organizations.

Total Mobility

Total Mobility is a nationwide scheme aimed at giving people with disabilities mobility options. The Waikato Regional Council administers the total mobility scheme in Hamilton. The scheme provides financial assistance, giving registered users a 50% discount on taxi fares up to a maximum of $15 per journey. The user pays the other half of the fare to the taxi driver. People who use the scheme must carry a Total Mobility photo I.D. card and vouchers to get the discounted fare.

The Stroke Foundation Hamilton has two accredited assessors, who will complete the paperwork and submit it on your behalf. Or you can send your completed application form to the local regional council for approval. There is no cost when the Stroke Foundation assessors do the assessment. When booking taxis, let them know you are a total mobility user. Vehicles with a wheelchair hoist must be booked in advance.

The assessors can come to you and the criteria is purely disability based it is not means tested. Once people join the total mobility scheme they are issued with a photo I.D. card and a voucher book wallet which enables them to use the scheme
